Navigating the Shift: Streamlining Systems to Step Out of Survival Mode
Friday May 16, 2025 10:00am - 10:45am EDT
Why did you get into education? No matter who we ask, the answer is never fame, fortune, or money. It is usually an indelible nature to serve students and help them succeed. In today’s educational landscape, this instinct to serve students is at war with cosmic shifts in funding, requirements, and compliance. It is easy to see why many of us are just trying to survive. However, we believe that a proactive perspective in streamlining systems will reduce stress and get you back to the reasons you started this journey in the first place. Join us for a session where we will use Legos, S’mores, and a little brain science to help you start moving from survival to sustainability.

Middle School Mini Golf: Authentic Robotics and Fabrication Skills
Friday May 16, 2025 2:15pm - 3:00pm EDT
I will be demonstrating a collaborative STEAM project which can involve two different grade levels. Firstly, groups of students (5th graders in our middle school) create mini-golf holes with moving features utilizing Hummingbird robotics and cardboard. Next, individual students (8th graders in our middle school) design and fabricate putters using wooden dowels for the shaft and 3D printed putter heads. Finally, both groups of students get to play the mini-golf holes with ping pong balls. Participants will get to interact with elements from all phases of this project - and get to play some mini-golf!
