If you give a kid a smartphone, will they know how to navigate the digital world responsibly? This presentation showcases a comprehensive 6th-grade curriculum designed to equip students with critical thinking skills for engaging with media and digital content. Topics include digital footprints, privacy, misinformation, algorithms, AI, and media bias. Educators will explore engaging lessons that develop essential skills like fact-checking, ethical research, source evaluation, and AI prompting. Attendees will gain practical strategies for fostering responsible digital citizens and leave with resources to implement in their own classrooms. This session is designed to let you experience SchoolAI from a student's perspective before creating your own Spaces. By understanding the student experience, you'll be better equipped to design Spaces tailored to meet individual student needs.

Discover the transformative potential of AI tools in the classroom, focusing on student-centered solutions. This interactive workshop introduces educators to AI technologies that enhance learning, foster creativity, and personalized educational experiences. Participants will explore the most current tools designed to support student engagement and skill development. By the end of the session, attendees will gain practical insights, strategies, and resources to integrate AI into their teaching practices and empower their students for success. Participants will each set a personal goal for AI use with students before leaving the session.

I will be demonstrating a collaborative STEAM project which can involve two different grade levels. Firstly, groups of students (5th graders in our middle school) create mini-golf holes with moving features utilizing Hummingbird robotics and cardboard. Next, individual students (8th graders in our middle school) design and fabricate putters using wooden dowels for the shaft and 3D printed putter heads. Finally, both groups of students get to play the mini-golf holes with ping pong balls. Participants will get to interact with elements from all phases of this project - and get to play some mini-golf!
